The Reasons You Shouldn't Smoke?
  • We are now living in a crazy world where criminals are glorified and others are often jailed for petty crimes. Yet virtually there is nothing done with regards to the sale of tobacco which is much more deadly than any criminal about the face in the earth.

Tobacco is a killer also it kills without mercy. In the us cigarette smoking is liable for over 400,000 deaths 12 months. Tobacco related diseases kill over 276,000 men and 142,000 women yearly. People who smoke regularly shorten their lives by about 2,250 days.

"A 25-year-old, two pack-a-day smoker of cigarettes carries a life expectancy 8.three years shorter than his non-smoking counterpart. For sets of men smoking fewer than 10 cigarettes per day, losing a great deal of life span is 4.6 years; smoking 10 to 19 cigarettes daily shortens the lifestyle, expectancy by 5.five-years; and smoking 20 to 39 cigarettes per day, by 6.24 months," said E.G. Hammond in "Lifespan of American Men relating to their Smoking Habits."

Smoking causes other conditions as well. Property damage because of fires brought on by cigarettes costs the American public $400 million every year. But this amount is small when compared to the man-hours lost from smoking.

"The-care costs of tobacco use in this country are staggering. Annually, we spend $23 billion in medical costs so we lose $30 billion due to lack of working serious amounts of decreased productivity coming from the results of smoking. Annually smoking kills more Americans than died in battle in World War II and Vietnam combined," according to Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief in the "Mayo Clinic Family Health Book."

"Smoking may be the single largest, preventable reason behind premature death and disability in this country. One in six deaths in the United States year after year is associated with smoking cigarettes. The American Lung Association states that smoking kills more Americans year after year than cocaine/heroin, alcohol abuse, accidents, homicide and suicide combined," Larson added.

Why do people smoke regardless of these grim statistics? Some say smoking enables them to relax and ease tension. Others seen tobacco as a possible escape from their everyday problems or as an approach of coping with the needs of the profession. And others claim that smoking perks up their day and prepares them for what lies ahead.
